23/02/2020

The Saudi-UAE Space Coordination Team held its first meeting via virtual teleconferencing technology under the chairmanship of Saudi Space Commission’s Deputy Chairman Majid bin Ali Al-Sheddi and UAE Space Agency’s Chief Executive Officer Fahd Al Mheiri.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed a set of proposed cooperation projects in the space-related fields, under the umbrella of Saudi-Emirati Coordination Council, and in view of the outcome of coordination of efforts at the Human Development Committee affiliated with the Coordination Council. The team also discussed ways to continue implementation work on mutual programs and projects.

The meeting included a discussion of the mechanisms deemed requisite to execute the memorandum of cooperation signed between the two parties in November 2019, on pursuing space applications for peaceful purposes.

The joint team decided to form a working group focused on education fields, systems, research and development, technical programs, aerial photography, and outreach and communication; and launched a joint project management office (PMO) to track the progress of initiatives, programs and activities.

HRH Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Chairman of Saudi Space Commission (SSC), held an earlier meeting with H.E UAE Space Agency Chairman Dr. Ahmed bin Abdullah Al-Falasi, in which they decided to form a joint supervisory team led on the Saudi side by Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Alshaikh, President of SSC, and on the UAE side by Engineer Mohamed Nasser Al-Ahbabi, Director General of UAE Space Agency. The team was mandated with leading cooperation work on implementation of the MoM signed between Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
